1917 National Kitchen – A Trip Back in Time!

June 19, 2017  |  feature  |  No Comments

On Friday the 16th June 2017, Pulp Friction, alongside Bryce Evans of Liverpool Hope University, provided a WWI-era three-course meal to over 100 guests as part of the National Kitchen Pop-Up. The event was part of a national competition run by the National Historical Society, which aims to engage communities with local history.

Using authentic recipes, the Pulp Friction team created a three-course meal using surplus ingredients that would otherwise have gone to waste. This including a selection of chutneys, pickles and spreads for starters, stew for the main course, and an assortment of cakes for dessert. The menu was enjoyed by all, with our homemade Wet Nelly going down a storm, and we even ran out of stew!

With a talk from food historian Bryce Evans, from Liverpool Hope University, and entertainment from the Pulp Friction Atmosphere Glee Choir and the Carrington Jazz Quintet, the evening was a delightful one – many guests even dressed up in period clothing to really take us back to 1917!

Many thanks to all who came – we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!
